Healthy Living: It all starts with education

The Community Health Center (CHC) at Odessa Regional Medical Center (ORMC) is committed to the health education of our community and to inspire the healthiest lifestyle each person can live. We provide a wide range of health services for infants, children and adults of any age.

Our services include screenings for preventative care, chronic disease self-management courses (Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes, Heart Disease), Nutrition classes with a Registered Dietitian, Pediatric Speech and Language Therapy, Lactation Support and Services with a Lactation Specialist, Newborn Discharge Education including Infant First Aid, choking and CPR. We also provide health education and screening services through participation in Community Health Fairs in Odessa and surrounding areas (We can travel to your school, church, community center, work place, or organization).

Courtesy Blood Work

  • No out-of-pocket cost for the lab work
  • Cholesterol panel
  • Thyroid check (TSH)
  • Diabetes screen (HbA1c)
  • Blood Pressure Screen
  • BMI Assessment

Pre- Diabetes and Diabetes Education (Type I and Type II)

  • No out-of-pocket cost for the program
  • One-on-one Pre-Assessment
  • Complementary blood draw
  • Interactive, hands-on group classes: meet once a week, (2 hour sessions) for five weeks. Reunion classes 6 weeks later
  • Diabetes educators are trained Lifestyle Coaches
  • Insulin pump management
  • Bring a friend or support person to classes with you

Gestational Diabetes Education (Diabetes in Pregnancy)

  • No out-of-pocket cost for the program
  • Group class to teach you about Gestational Diabetes, how to manage it, for the best outcomes for you and your baby
  • Diet and Nutrition education
  • Insulin pump management 
  • Diabetes Educators are trained Lifestyle Coaches
  • Bring a friend or support person to classes with you

Nutrition Therapy

  • No out-of-pocket cost for the program
  • Nutrition and dietary guidance provided by Registered Dietitian
  • Offered to patients utilizing services for Education, Pediatric Speech Therapy, and Newborn Clinic.

Pediatric Speech Therapy & Screenings

  • Evaluation and treatment for Speech and Language Disorders in Pediatric population (Primary Care Provider referral needed)
  • Screenings for Speech and Language Disorders as requested by schools, daycares, “Mother’s Day Out” programs, churches, and more. Screening offers parents insight into their child’s language development and helps identify possible areas where intervention/support may be needed.
  • Expressive Language, Articulation and Feeding and Swallow Therapy
  • Bilingual therapy offered in English and Spanish

Courtesy Pregnancy Test

  • Free pregnancy testing
  • Referrals to local Obstetricians and community resources
  • Information on delivering your baby at ORMC
  • Medicaid application Assistance

Newborn Clinic with Certified Lactation Consultant

  • No out-of-pocket cost for the program
  • Newborn Checkup 3-5 days after discharge from ORMC
  • Breastfeeding/Lactation support
  • Bottle Feeding/Pumping support
  • Bilirubin (Jaundice), blood oxygen and weight check

Newborn Discharge Education Course

  • No out-of-pocket cost for the program
  • Learn about infant First-Aid for Choking and CPR
  • Learn about the Period of Purple Crying
  • Helpful tips on caring for your newborn at home and integrating into your environment
  • Bring family and friends to attend as well
  • A must-have course before you take your newborn home

Education/Health Fairs for the community (including schools, churches, community centers, businesses/ organizations)

  • Health fairs with courtesy blood draws
  • Training and support in Diabetes education for safe workplace environment
  • Presentation on various health, nutrition and dietary needs
  • Infant and Adult CPR
  • Care of infant classes for new parents
