Running for a Cause

Saturday morning individuals from around the Permian Basin took part in Cups for a Cause, a 5K/10K run that benefited Pink the Basin.

Before the race began, participants and their families enjoyed activities including face painting, yoga, a silent auction, a breast cancer survivor VIP tent and performances from local high schools. During the race, businesses set up stations around the route to provide water and support to runners.

“Pink the Basin is so grateful to all of the organizers, sponsors and participants of the event,” said Pink the Basin Executive Director Bridgette Meyers. “Four out of five women over 40 in the Permian Basin do not get their mammograms. Cups for a Cause allows our organization to combat this statistic and provide education and early detection to women in the Permian Basin, which is so important.”

This was the fifth year of the event. Cups for a Cause is provided by Odessa Regional Medical Center (ORMC) and all proceeds go to support Pink the Basin.

“ORMC is so proud to support Pink the Basin year after year,” said Tasa Richardson, director of marketing and communications for ORMC and Cups for a Cause organizer. “The work of Pink

the Basin helps prevent breast cancer not only for our patients, but for all women across the Permian Basin.”

Event Sponsors included Atmos Energy, Betsy Triplett-Hurt, Complex Community Federal Credit Union, Crossroads, CVA Advertising & Marketing, Debbie Bergen Promotional Products, Marriott Odessa, Odessa College, Odessa Regional Medical Center, Pioneer Natural Resources, Sewell Lincoln, Sign Solutions, Stay Classy Photo Booths, Apple Electric, Blue Energy Services, H-E-B, Lone Star Instrumentation & Electric Corp., Lone Star State Bank, Mary Carlson, Stout Images, Heather and Taylor Grimes, West Texas Medical Spa, Americas Wholesale Furniture, Amy and Cal Hendrick, EOWS Midland Company, Courtney and Jon Wardlaw, Orangetheory Fitness Odessa, Roaming Yoga, Tina Mobley, Circle of Hope Support Group, Chick-fil-A, Complex Community Federal Credit Union, First Basin Credit Union, Home Hospice and Home Nursing, and Saulsbury Industries.
