ORMC Now Offers Patients a Minimally Invasive Surgery Option

Imagine the possibility of having a major surgical procedure and being able to quickly return to normal daily activities. For many surgery patients in the Permian Basin, this isn’t just something to dream about, but a reality, thanks to robotic surgery.  Odessa Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that we are now offering robotic surgery.

Robotic surgery is a benefit for surgeons and patients alike, according to Dr. Kevin Lynch of Complete Care General Surgery.

The da Vinci system is a tool that utilizes advanced, robotic, computer and optical technologies to assist the surgeon with your operation.  It does not act on its own and its movements are controlled by the surgeon.  Surgery with this system is a less invasive technique.  The benefits of this method can be:

  • A shorter hospital stay
  • Less Blood Loss
  • Fewer possible complications
  • A faster recovery
  • Smaller incisions associated with minimal scarring

“Robotic surgery enhances precision and gives surgeons complete control of movement,” Dr. Lynch said. “Robotic surgery offers the patient the ability to have the procedure done with a faster recovery time so they can get back to life.”

Surgery is performed using the da Vinci surgical robot at Odessa Regional Medical Center. A range of minimally invasive procedures are possible with the system, including hysterectomies, radical prostatectomy’s, and procedures involving hernias, the intestine and gallbladder.  Ask your surgeon about various robotic procedures available.
